STEVE WOODS
Having started his career as a trainee at Stoke City, Steve also had spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Chesterfield before making the long trip to South Devon to sign for the Gulls in August 2001 and has served the club superbly ever since.
Although not the tallest defender, Steve has been a consistent performer at the Centre Back position where his experience and reading of the game usually mean he can be found in the right place at the right time. A natural leader, Steve's commitment and experience led to Paul Buckle naming him as Club Captain for the 2007/08 season.
Steve missed much of last season with injury and at times it showed on the pitch but he made a surprise recovery to take part in United's ultimately unsuccessful end of season bid to win both promotion and the F.A. Trophy. Steve will be challenging for a place in what looks to be a competitive area of United's squad this season, centre back, and his experience may well be an important factor this season.
